Question / Help Network Cameras

Can you use networked cameras (like the security ones) with this? If so, is there a specific brand / model?

I am not real familiar with the software and I was playing around and was able to get 2 USB webcams to work in one scene, but I think I am going to need to go with 2 either wired or wireless network cameras.

From the looks of the software it is very robust in the input sources so I would imagine I can, just not sure exactly how.

I have not purchased the network cameras yet as I wanted to make sure what I want to do is even feasible first.

Thanks!

Depends on the model. With the CLR Browser plugin, it could be possible to grab a videostream if the cameras you buy provide a video-only interface URL. Alternately, you can likely just window capture your camera's software with a window capture. But no, there's no native network-camera plugin.

OBS isn't really designed to grab security cams, depending on the purpose you're going for. If you want to remotely watch your home security setup or something, Zoneminder would probably be a better choice.

Also, go for wired cams. Wireless tend to have framerate issues, and can easily be flooded out and rendered useless with the right hardware, in a security setting.

Thanks for the reply. I would be using these for pool in a couple different setups. I either want 2 pretty much over the table with each camera getting half the table and about 4 feet around it or I would use one looking down at the table from a corner angle and one focused on the shooter to record their form.

Webcams don't seem to be of the quality picture or viewing angle I would need. Though I would admit I haven't looked into too many so there may be one that would be, but then we have the cable length to deal with.

OBS-mp / OBS-studio have video source capture option. With "local file" unchecked, may allow rtsp, rtp, rtmp, udp, and maybe http video? About most of what VLC player can accept as network input.

While OBS-mp comes with this, not sure if the old OBS have a plugin for that...

USB cameras are very limited in length, Ethernet wired network cameras can go well over 100 feet.
