Hello, all i plan to build a new streaming pc i mainly play dota 2, i would like to stream in 720p 60fps if that is possible from 1 machine.

Option 1 : 4core i5 6600k (3.5Ghz) OC Possible
Option 2 : 4core 8 threads E3 1231 v3 (3.4Ghz) no OC

what would you guys build in 2016 if u were me ?

also i'm not sure if that "skylake" i5 can handle dota2 reborn 720p 60fps (i guess 1231 can or im wrong ?)

PS: my main focus is dota2 720p 60fps, i dont play other games ...

Assuming you are streaming to Twitch, unless you are a Partner 720@60 is unrealistic due to the technical limitations; it's a waste of bitrate, and with a 2000kbps maximum advised bitrate, you don't have much to spare.

On a technical level:
Neither of those will reliably handle 720@60.
If you are focusing on a streaming machine, an i7-5820k is the way to go at present, until the i7-6950x is released. If you want to go primarily for gaming performance, an i7-6700k should do the job. Any of the three should handle 720@60 with at least a Fast or Medium preset without issues.

DOTA is pretty much a single-threaded game, so having a higher single-thread performance is the way to go as far as the game itself goes.

That means the i5-6600k will win, and if you can OC it, you'll get even better performance.

As to encoding for streaming, I would prefer to benchmark both CPUs, but on paper the CPUs are similar, so I would go with the i5 as well because you can overclock it.

I am NOT saying that those CPUs will give you what you want (1280x720@60p), but rather I'm just comparing the 2 you mentioned to each other.

okey, i'm not a twitch partner that means i cant stream 720@60 cool, np so i want 720@30 then that might be possible right ?

so again from that point of view u suggest 6600k or 1231 v3 Xeon

If you plan on overclocking, go with the 6600k. If you don't... I would still go with the 6600k.
