Question / Help No Device | Elgato 60HD with OBS Multiplatform

Hello,

Currently I am having an issue of OBS multiplatform saying there is no device plugged into my elgato hd60 in OBS multiplatform. It works well in regular OBS as well as in the elgato capture software. I want to use multiplatform to stream and record at different settings. Does anyone know why this may be occurring?

Also, this has always happened with multiplatform with this device. It has never worked in multiplatform. This isn't a recent occurrence, it has been an always occurrence.. but like I said it works well in regular obs and the elgato capture.

1. Install/reinstall the latest drivers from https://gc-updates.elgato.com/windows/egcw-update/3.10/final/download_x64.php

2. Delete the Elgato source in OBS Studio, then re-add it

3. If you still get a "No device" message open the source properties, click Configure, and make sure everything there is correct (e.g. where input to the Elgato is coming from)

Thanks Sapiens. I actually opened up OBS Multi 64 bit and it just worked right off the bat. I was using 32 bit. Maybe that was the issue? Not sure. If it happens again I will be sure to hit up all of the things you mentioned. I was just streaming at 2400 and kept getting an encoding overload message. I am pretty sure my pc is fast enough to handle what I am streaming at. I can record in the elgato software at 60 fps 1080 just fine but can't record or stream in 720 30 fps 2400 encoding in OBS without an encoding overload message. Do you know what may be causing this?

The Elgato software doesn't use your CPU to compress the video like x264 does. Worse quality at the same bitrate but less system load. A 3-core CPU is going to have a hard time handling 720p60 encoding.

Ah ok. What does that mean? I need to change my computer's processor? I also have a Hauppauge hdpvr 2. Would that be better to use? I am guessing that would be the same issue though.

Yes, you need a better CPU.
The Hauppage will have the same problem, and is a worse capture device (though specific support for it was added in Studio, so it could be captured at all).

Also, What processor is the best for streaming this type of content? And would it just be a simple upgrade of changing the processor and the cooling unit to be more powerful?

The HD60 Pro doesn't have the annoying ~2 second capture latency that all external Elgatos have, can capture at a higher rate and doesn't compress the video so you get better quality overall. It will not help with a weak CPU though; no capture card will.

For moderate streaming, an i5 will work. For 'serious' streaming, look at an i7. AMD is cheaper, but there's a reason most streamers switch to Intel in the long run; it delivers smoother, more reliable performance as compared to AMD's more peaky rates.
